History

Axé Brazil Academy of capoeira was first founded in October, 1988 under the name
"The Brazilian Capoeira Association of Canada- Axé Brazil. Geraldo Carvalho, it's founder, was then an instructor of Capoeira graduated at the "Associação de Capoeira Barravento", with Master Evaldo (BOGADO) de Almeida, in the city of Niteroi, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Master Geraldo also trained with Master Ezion Medeiros de Castro (JUREMA) at the "Academia de Capoeira Senhor do Bonfim", and Master José Alves Borges (TARZAN) at the "Associação de Capoeira Beira Mar", both in the city of Campinas, São Paulo, Brazil.
Master Geraldo is a pioneer, in the sense that he is the first to teach Capoeira in the Maritimes Region of Canada. Master Geraldo is also credited with founding the first school of Capoeira in Toronto in 1993.
Axé Brazil Academy of Capoeira is located in the city of Halifax, Province of Nova Scotia, Canada. Axé Brazil is a school member of the Brazilian Association of Capoeira (ABRACAP), Rio de Janeiro Sport Capoeira Federation (FCDRJ), Niteroi Capoeira League (LINC), and Barravento Group from Brazil.
